Oman Air to join Oneworld in the second half of this year

Oman Air is anticipated to become a member of oneworld later this year, marking a significant milestone for the alliance, according to Gerhard Girkinger, VP of Oneworld.

Girkinger, speaking at the inauguration of the new Oneworld Seoul Lounge, emphasized Oman’s allure as a tourism destination, describing it as “a truly unique destination for the alliance” that remains relatively undiscovered by many travelers.

Once Oman Air joins oneworld, it will join the ranks alongside neighboring carriers like Qatar Airways and Royal Jordanian, as well as major airlines such as American Airlines, British Airways, and Cathay Pacific.

While the exact timeline for Oman Air’s integration into oneworld is yet to be finalized, Girkinger expressed optimism about completing the process in the second half of 2024. He noted that the integration process typically takes 12 to 24 months, with Oman Air currently halfway through this process.

The integration process primarily involves ensuring seamless technology integration between Oman Air’s systems and the broader oneworld platform. Additionally, there are marketing requirements related to the use of the oneworld brand and promoting alliance membership, which also require careful consideration and implementation.

Oman Air + Oneworld offer

Flying with Oman Air as part of the oneworld alliance presents a wealth of benefits for frequent flyers, offering enhanced earning and redemption opportunities across all member airlines. Additionally, passengers can enjoy reciprocal status benefits aligned with Oman Air’s Sinbad loyalty program.

Sinbad membership comprises three tiers, with Sinbad Blue serving as the entry-level tier for new members. Sinbad Silver, akin to oneworld Ruby or oneworld Sapphire status, grants qualifying passengers access to a range of perks, including an increased baggage allowance, expedited check-in at business class counters, priority baggage handling, and access to Oman Air’s business class lounge before international flights.

For Sinbad Gold members, equivalent to Oneworld Sapphire or Oneworld Emerald status, additional privileges are extended. This tier offers guest privileges at the Oman Air Business Class lounge, along with a complimentary upgrade voucher from Economy to Business Class, enhancing the overall travel experience for elite members.

Operating from its primary hub at Muscat International Airport, Oman Air connects travelers to five major oneworld member airline hubs: Amman, Colombo, Doha, Kuala Lumpur, and London Heathrow. The airline already boasts partnerships with oneworld members such as Malaysia Airlines, Qatar Airways, Royal Jordanian, and SriLankan through codeshare agreements.

Oman Air’s extensive network spans across the Middle East, Africa, and Asia, with Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur emerging as key transit points for Australian travelers. As a new member of oneworld, Oman Air’s routes will seamlessly integrate into the alliance’s global network, offering travelers the flexibility to plan and book trips worldwide, whether utilizing cash fares or redeeming frequent flyer points for multi-city award bookings.
