Etihad Guest targets Australians in 2024 status match

Etihad Airways, the prominent Gulf carrier, is vying for the loyalty of Australian frequent flyers with its latest initiative: a status match program set to roll out in 2024. This innovative program targets members of 20 competing loyalty programs across Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and North America.

Among the notable programs included in this initiative are Qantas Frequent Flyer, Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer, and Qatar Airways Privilege Club. Additionally, Turkish Airlines Miles & Smiles, United MileagePlus, and several others are part of the list.

How Etihad’s 2024 Status Match works

The latest Etihad Guest promotion isn’t open to all; it’s tailored exclusively for residents of Australia and India who hold qualifying elite status. There’s a fee attached: $59 (AUD$91) for Silver applicants and $99 (AUD$153) for Gold.

Unfortunately, Platinum status isn’t on offer through this promotion, even for top-tier members of rival programs such as Qantas Platinum and Platinum One.

Upon approval, members will enjoy Etihad Guest Silver or Gold Status for three months, bypassing the usual requirement of 20 or 40 ‘tier segments’ (similar to qualifying flights) needed to attain these tiers.

Silver status grants privileges like priority check-in, extra baggage allowance, and a 25% bonus on eligible flight points. Gold status ups the ante with a 50% bonus on points and access to partner airline lounges worldwide, including those of Etihad and Virgin Australia.

Travelers departing from Abu Dhabi can also access the airline’s new Business Class Lounge: solo for Silver members and with a guest for Gold members.

With strategic planning, you can extend your elite status for the next 12 months by completing at least one qualifying Etihad flight.
